Lucia Harley

Lucia is an artist living near Frome. She received Project Development Bursary in 2018 and will be showing work in progress in Frome during Art Weeks Festival 2019.

Lucia Harley’s work explores the boundaries between outer and inner worlds. Aspiration, thought, memory, and emotion intertwine and are reflected in her practice through sculpture, installation and performance.

She was recently commissioned to perform ‘Up Down’ (2018) in collaboration with Preston Street Union at the launch of Exeter Cultural, and has worked on many socially engaged arts projects including Parks for People project, Sydney Gardens, Bath, (2017-18)

Lucia has spent a significant amount of time in Brazil, where she has family and studied at ECA the Art School in Sao Paulo. This has influenced her life and creative practice and she maintains strong links with fellow artists in Brazil.

‘Participating in a series of discussions ‘Disclosures and Dialogues’ Hestercombe (2018), led to connective conversations between art and science with my Dad, a botanist living in Brazil. These took me on a journey through taxonomy, DNA, and the individuality of plants. I would like to use the SAW artist’ bursary to research this further and explore process and outcomes that involve, intervene and integrate with others and our environment.

I see this project as a stepping stone toward a bigger more collaborative project partly based in Brazil.
