Shannon will be receiving Creative Pathways bursary to develop and showcase her new work at Dove Studio, Butleigh during Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2019.
Shannon Watson is an artist and recent graduate from BA(Hons) Fine Art at Plymouth College of Art. Through social engagement, she uses her work as a platform to encourage discussions around social situations and the previous realities that existed within a given cultural space. Since graduating in 2018, Shannon has been awarded graduate residencies at Spike Island, Bristol and Engine Rooms, Bridgwater. With focus on participation, she has used these opportunities to develop a performative practice which draws on digital media and installation. From swimming lessons at the Tate, to a collaborative project with Imperfect Orchestra, the performer becomes a fluid position to be explored within her work.
Growing up in Somerset, Shannon hopes to use the bursary to broaden her creative connections to the county and learn more about its heritage. Shannon will be taking part in a week-long residency at Dove Studios, Butleigh, along with several other artists. She intends to use this time to collaborate with the artists and the land, experimenting with new mediums and materials. By using her interests to contemplate new possibilities, Shannon will explore the interactive side of her practice to create a participatory event that encourages the public to engage in Dove Studios rich site.
